Dr. McGrew just completed his PH.D. in education with a social studies emphasis from Purdue University. He holds a master's degree in economic education and entrepreneurship from the University of Delaware and a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in secondary social studies education and in political science and economics. His research focus is on experiential education on a number of national committees including the NAEP National Economics Committee and the Council for Chief State School Officers national CSSAP assessment group. He recently served on the National Council for the Social Studies Standards revision Task Force, and is the immediate past president for the Indiana Council for the Social Studies.
Dr. John Conant, a colleague of Dr. McGrew's joined him for the presentation. Dr. Conant is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics. He is also the Director of Indiana State University's Center for Economic Education. His Ph.D. is from the University of Tennessee. He has taught at Indiana State University since 1981. Dr. Conant has taught economic education workshops and consulted on economic curriculum and taught pedagogy in China, Russia, and Thailand as well as at a number of institutions in the United States. Dr. Conant's research has been published in a number of professional and scholarly journals including: Journal of Labor Research, The National Tax Journal, The Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Cultural Dynamics, and the Government Union Review. Dr. Conant has received a number of professional awards including the 2007-2008 President's Medal, Indiana State University's highest award for faculty.
