Terre Haute is one plane change away from virtually any major city in the world via Indiana's largest airport and main passenger hub for aviation, the Indianapolis International Airport (IND). IND is home to the second largest FedEx Express operations in the world and is the 8th largest cargo center in the United States.

Our Terre Haute Regional Airport (HUF) is 7 miles from our main street business district in Terre Haute Downtown. HUF offers the largest air transportation facility in west central Indiana and east central Illinois and is easily accessible from these locations. Military operations including unmanned systems and top-flight university programs use HUF.  Interstate Highway 70 runs adjacent to portions of the airport property.

HUF is the 3rd busiest airport in the state for operations with its 9,020 feet runway which handles the largest military and civilian aircraft.  Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) benefits are available via INzone.  HUF has over 5,000 acres in an Airport Development Zone whereby businesses locating in and investing in the zone are eligible to receive tax-credits. In addition, the Airport Authority is permitted to use TIF to pay for public infrastructure to support business activity in the zone. The Airport Development Zone encompasses the 180 acre Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, South Campus-Certified Technology Park.

More than half of Indiana's border is water which includes 400 miles of direct access to two major freight transportation arteries.  Terre Haute is equal distance (approximately 120 miles) to all three Indiana Ports.  The Portage of Burns Harbor handles international ships via the St. Lawrence Seaway connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantics Ocean, and provides year-round barge access to more than 20 states and the Gulf of Mexico through the Inland Waterways System.  The Portage of Jeffersonville is a gateway to the Midwest providing year-round barge connections to the Gulf of Mexico through the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and gives access to U.S. Markets within a day's drive.  The Portage of Mount Vernon is located on the Ohio River and has connections to five Class I railroads.

So what is it that sets us apart, that really, truly makes our location a central link in a global network?

We are not short on ways to get here.  Our central location means your business can connect to customers and suppliers faster.  For starters, Terre Haute's dependable infrastructure with I-70; and U.S. Highways 41 and 40 (the United States true Crossroads of America intersection) is conveniently accessible and is within a day's drive to a majority of U.S. markets. That's approximately 82 million consumers.

Terre Haute is 120 miles from the state's 3 navigable waterways and have miles of main and shortline railroads crisscrossing the county.  Plus our regional airport, with the state's 4th longest runway at 9,020 feet, makes it the 3rd busiest airport in Indiana for operations.

Though Terre Haute is a major national crossroads for interstate and highways, we are also a crossroad for rail.  CSX Transportation, a Class I rail provider, and Indiana Rail Road, a shortline rail service provider, operate hundreds of miles of track here.

CSX operates and maintains nearly 2,600 miles of track in Indiana and handles more than 2.9 million carloads of freight on the state's rail network.  Indiana Rail Road is a privately-held railroad with 250 miles of track and hauls upwards of 800,000 truckloads of freight.

So it's obvious that transportation is a major catalyst for Terre Haute.  Our road and rail infrastructure is a crucial tool that ensures you can find success here through the ease with which you can get your products to a global audience - no matter which delivery method you choose.
