Housing

In Terre Haute, the "American Dream" of home ownership is a reality for many of our residents.  Every Terre Haute neighborhood is unique, possessing certain assets grounded in its history and current standing.  A healthy neighborhood is a place where it makes economic sense for people to invest their time, money and energy.

According to the Indiana Association of Realtors, the number of closed sales is down month-over-month (February 2010 vs February 2011).  The median sale price of homes, statewide, has now increased 15 out of the 17 months.  Statewide, when comparing February 2011 to February 2010:

  • the median sale price of homes increased 2.0 percent to 100,000;
  • the average sale price of homes increased 0.3% to $122,052; and
  • the number of closed sales decreased 7.1% to 3,212.

It is thought that the Federal Housing Tax Credit pulled some home sales forward in 2010, perhaps even distorting the year-over-year comparisons in the short term for Indiana.  The statistics below reveal data on the Indiana Housing Market for counties of Vigo, Clay, Parke, Sullivan, and Vermillion which comprise the Terre Haute MSA.  Data pulled as of March 16, 2011, includes detached single family homes, condos and townhouses.
