Workforce Overview

We know that every business has its own particular way of doing things. And we know that new and expanding businesses have concerns about a new workforce when they relocate. Terre Haute and the West Central region has an abundant skilled pipeline which is fueled by nearly 3,000 students graduating each year from the community's colleges and universities. Plus the region offers career and apprenticeship programs and the training areana offers certificates of credit.  The region's workforce is known for its high productivity, strong work ethic and sense of community.

Our community is home to a host of world-class higher education institutions - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Indiana State University, Ivy Tech Community College-Wabash Valley, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, and Harrison College. These institutions, along with our public school system, the Vigo County School Corporation (which is #1 in the top ten Urban Schools District in Indiana) provides the means to supply a well trained and productive workforce, keeping up with product cycles and working to pull ahead of national and global competitors. Inside and outside the classroom, the greater Terre Haute community is engaged in a number of innovative programs geared toward preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow, creating excitement about the sciences and math and providing educators the resources they need and recognition they deserve.

Over the past three decades, the presence of companies like Sony DADC (Blu-Ray DVD's and other media), Staples (the company's Midwest Distribution Center), GE Aviation, Bemis (one of the world's largest polyethylene plastic and flexographic printing facilities), Tredegar, PolyOne, Taghleef (formerly Applied Extrusion Technologies), Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (South America's largest steel producer), Boral Bricks, First Financial Corporation and Clabber Girl Corporation have been testimony to the quality of the workforce in Terre Haute/Vigo County.
