City and county government understand the importance of producing the best opportunities available for businesses and families to grow strong. Our local government's pro-business attitude focuses on areas such as tax structure, regulatory process, and strong economic development programs to name a few.
The City of Terre Haute is governed by a full-time mayor who is the chief administrative official of the city, and a nine-member city council. Vigo County is governed by three county commissioners and a seven-member county council whose responsibilities lie primarily in the area of fiscal affairs.
Law Enforcement—
130 uniformed city officers; 37 uniformed county officers;
Indiana State Police employ 56 full-time professional officers. In July 2010, the Terre Haute District merged with the Putnamville District servicing six counties.
Fire Protection—
Terre Haute Fire Department consists of 144 member-force;
Vigo County consists of 18 Volunteer Fire Departments.
Waste Removal—
Private and municipal collection on a weekly basis.
Sewage—
City of Terre Haute with a Pretreatment Program in place.
