Terre Haute offers a strong culture of health and wellness.  With more than 8,300 health and wellness workers across the county and a $46.1 million annual payroll, the industry has a compelling impact.   We are home to top medical facilities as well as affordable health care costs.  From such companies as HCA-Terre Haute Regional Hospital, the Union Health System, Union Health Medical Group, and Hamilton Center, a regional behavioral health system, we are a healthcare hub with expanding medical and wellness tourism opportunities.

The HCA-Terre Haute Regional Hospital is a Level 2 Trauma Center, the only Level 2 trauma center in west-central Indiana, sixth in state.  Union Health System's NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), a Level III unit is the largest in a 70-mile radius and was the first NICU established in the state.

Terre Haute is home to respected medical schools that produce leading medical professionals who serve patients across the region, state and nation.  These include Indaina State University College of Health and Human Services; Ivy Tech Community College Nursing & Practical Nursing program; Saint Mary of the Woods College Nursing Program; and the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative.  (The latter works to improve and expand interprofessional education, training, and deployment of future health care providers, especially for those committed to serving rural population.)  We would be remiss not to mention the Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health that takes an innovative approach to prepare and train medical residents for successful rural practice.

Terre Haute's health and wellness industry includes a dynamic and growing group of companies that provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative services as well.  Extending beyond health care delivery, the industry represents a continium of businesses ranging from treating disease to a multidimensional and holistic approach that focuses on complete physical and mental health, social well-being, and disease prevention.  Companies in the health and wellness industry includes the offices of physicians, dentists, chiropractors, optometrists, physical and speech therapists and other health practitioners.  The Industry includes hospitals ranging from general medical, surgical and psychiatric to substance abuse and specialty care, and includes centers focused on family planning, outpatient, substance abuse, kidney dialysis, diagnostic imaging and emergency care.  Companies focused on nursing care, assisted living and long-term care, and businesses that provide services for individuals, families and the elderly are also included.  From Industries of home health equipment rental, fitness and recreational facilities, diet and weight reducing services, and massage and yoga services, to companies that manufacture opththalmic goods, and retailers engaged in vitamins and nutrition supplements are also included.
